TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland: Why a Clean Canopy Does Not Mean a Clean Extract System

A spotless kitchen canopy looks reassuring. But what you can see is only one part of your extraction system.

Behind that clean canopy, grease, oil vapours and cooking particles can travel into filters, ductwork and fans. Over time, deposits can build up where routine kitchen cleaning cannot reach.

That’s why TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland is about much more than making visible surfaces look clean. It’s about cleaning the complete kitchen extract system and keeping proper records of the work.

Why a Clean Canopy Is Only the Beginning

The canopy sits above your cooking equipment and captures airborne grease and vapour. It’s also the part most people notice first.

A thorough canopy clean matters. However, it doesn't tell you what is happening inside the connected extraction system.

Your extract route can include filters, internal ductwork, access points and an extraction fan. Grease can travel through this route and settle on internal surfaces.

BESA's January 2026 guidance highlights how commercial kitchen extract systems can accumulate grease, oil vapours and airborne particles inside ductwork. These deposits can create a serious fire risk when systems aren't properly maintained.

So, when arranging TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland, ask one simple question: Are you cleaning the whole extract system?

What Should a Proper TR19 Clean Include?

At Total Air Solutions, certified kitchen extract cleaning covers the key parts of the system.

The service includes:

Canopy cleaning
Duct cleaning
Filter cleaning
Fan cleaning
TR19 certificate and report

Each component has an important job.

Filters capture grease before it travels further. Ductwork carries contaminated air through the building. The fan drives extraction and can also collect deposits.

Cleaning only the canopy can therefore leave important hidden areas untouched.

That’s why TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland should be treated as a system-maintenance task, rather than simply another kitchen deep clean.

Why Hidden Ductwork Deserves Attention

Ductwork is easy to forget because most of it is out of sight. That doesn't mean it's outside the working environment.

Every busy service can send grease-laden vapour into the extraction route. The longer the system operates, the more opportunity deposits have to build up.

BESA's 2026 guidance explains that grease deposits inside kitchen extract ductwork can be difficult to remove and can contribute to fire hazards.

This matters for restaurants, hotels, pubs, cafés and other commercial food businesses.

A visual check of the canopy cannot tell you whether the hidden ductwork is clean.

What 2026 Food-Safety Enforcement Can Teach Us

Food businesses already have plenty to manage. Cleaning records, staff training, HACCP controls and equipment maintenance all matter.

FSAI reported 127 enforcement orders during 2025, including closure, prohibition and improvement orders. The authority highlighted continuing problems involving poor hygiene, unsafe food practices and inadequate food-safety management.

The 2026 figures continue to show why cleanliness and maintenance deserve attention.

In July 2026, FSAI reported 13 enforcement orders. Reasons included extensive food debris, poor cleanliness, grease and grime, and inadequate cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

These orders aren't specifically a measure of TR19 compliance. They do, however, show why food businesses need consistent cleaning and maintenance procedures.

Fire safety also remains important in 2026. Ireland's Department of Housing published the 2026 edition of Technical Guidance Document B, Fire Safety, in January 2026.

TR19 isn't a replacement for fire-safety legislation. Professional extract cleaning can instead form part of a sensible maintenance and risk-management programme.

That distinction matters when choosing TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland. You want clear information about what was cleaned, what was found, and what documentation you receive.

Why the TR19 Certificate and Report Matter

A certificate gives you a useful record of completed extract cleaning.

Total Air Solutions states that it is licensed to issue TR19 certificates and that its engineers are trained to BESA TR19 standards. Its certified service also includes a TR19 certificate and report.

The company also tracks certificate validity and sends reminders before expiry. This can make recurring maintenance easier to manage.

If you're arranging TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland for the first time, ask what documentation you'll receive after the work.

How Often Should Your Extract System Be Cleaned?

There isn't one sensible interval for every commercial kitchen.

Cooking methods, operating hours and grease production can all affect cleaning requirements. A busy frying operation may have very different needs from a lighter-use kitchen.

The important point is to follow an appropriate cleaning regime rather than waiting until visible grease becomes obvious.

Your contractor should be able to explain the recommended cleaning frequency for your specific kitchen and extraction system.

Cleaning Is Only One Part of Ventilation Maintenance

A clean extract system is important, but ventilation maintenance doesn't necessarily end there.

Total Air Solutions also provides Duct Monitor, which its website describes as real-time, AI-powered HVAC monitoring. It is designed to help identify potential issues before they become larger problems.

The company also provides Aeroseal duct sealing, designed to reduce energy loss by sealing hidden duct leaks. Fire damper testing is another available service.

These services aren't substitutes for kitchen extract cleaning. They address different parts of ventilation maintenance.

FAQs

Is TR19 kitchen cleaning the same as normal kitchen cleaning?

No. TR19 kitchen extract cleaning focuses specifically on the extraction system. This can include the canopy, filters, ductwork and fan, along with the relevant certificate and report.

Does TR19 cleaning include ductwork?

Total Air Solutions includes canopy, duct, filter and fan cleaning within its certified kitchen extract cleaning service.

Does a clean canopy prove the duct is clean?

No. The canopy is only one component. Grease can accumulate further along the extraction route, including inside ductwork and around the fan.

Why should I arrange TR19 Certified Kitchen Cleaning Ireland?

It helps you maintain the hidden parts of your kitchen extract system and provides documentation of the work completed.
