Container Sales Ireland: Why Location Matters When Buying a Shipping Container

When you're buying a shipping container, the container itself is only part of the decision.

You also need to think about where it is coming from, how far it has to travel, how it will reach your site, and how it will be positioned once it arrives.

That’s why location matters when you're looking at Container Sales Ireland.

A container may be suitable on paper, but delivery can become complicated if your supplier is far away or access is difficult. Choosing a supplier with a well-positioned base and nationwide delivery can make the whole process much easier.

For customers across Ireland, location can affect everything from transport planning to delivery times and on-site placement.

Why Location Matters When Buying a Container

Shipping containers are large, heavy structures. Getting one from a supplier to your property isn't like ordering a small parcel.

Your supplier needs to consider the route, site access, available space, and how the container will be unloaded.

This becomes particularly important if you're buying for a construction site, farm, business premises or renovation project.

At Shipcon, our yard is based in Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath, beside the M6 motorway. The company says this strategic location helps it serve customers efficiently across Ireland.

For someone researching Container Sales Ireland, that central position can be useful.

Instead of focusing only on the purchase price, it's worth considering the complete journey from supplier to site.

Ireland's Construction Sector Makes Practical Storage Important

There is another reason this conversation matters in 2026.

Ireland's construction sector continues to see significant activity. EY's July 2026 EUROCONSTRUCT forecast estimates that Irish construction output will grow by 5.3% during 2026. It also forecasts around 40,000 housing completions for the year.

The Central Statistics Office also reported a 60% annual increase in dwelling units granted planning permission during Q2 2026. A total of 11,912 dwelling units received permission during the quarter.

That doesn't mean every project needs a shipping container.

It does show why secure, flexible storage remains relevant for construction and related businesses.

Tools, materials, machinery and equipment need somewhere practical to stay while work progresses.

For businesses considering Container Sales Ireland, choosing a supplier that can manage delivery and positioning can therefore be just as important as choosing the unit itself.

A Central Location Can Make Delivery Simpler

Shipcon's Tyrrellspass location puts it close to the M6, giving access to important routes across the Midlands and beyond. Shipcon states that its location is around 45 minutes from Dublin and 90 minutes from Galway.

This can be particularly relevant if you're based in Westmeath or nearby counties.

It also matters for customers in Offaly, Meath and Longford who need a container delivered to a commercial or rural site.

Customers in Cavan and Leitrim can also arrange delivery across Ireland, while those in Kildare and Dublin can benefit from Shipcon's nationwide delivery service.

The same applies further south and east. Businesses in Louth and Tipperary, as well as customers in Roscommon, can discuss their requirements with the team.

The important point is simple: don't treat delivery as an afterthought.

Ask about it before you commit to a purchase.

Think About More Than the Container's Size

Shipcon supplies containers in multiple sizes, including standard 20ft and 40ft options. The company also provides customised solutions for different applications.

Choosing the right size starts with what you actually need to store.

A smaller container may work well for tools, documents or limited equipment.

A larger unit may make more sense for bulk stock, machinery, construction materials or business inventory.

You should also think about the space available at your property.

Can a delivery vehicle reach the intended location?

Is there enough room for the container?

Will doors open properly once the container is positioned?

Are there overhead obstacles or restricted access points?

These questions are easy to overlook when you're comparing containers online.

They become much more important on delivery day.

What Can You Use a Shipping Container For?

A shipping container can provide useful storage for many different situations.

Shipcon's containers are designed for applications including construction equipment storage, agricultural and machinery storage, document storage, retail inventory, furniture during renovations and event equipment.

That makes them useful for both businesses and individuals.

For example, a construction company in Westmeath might need somewhere secure for tools and materials.

A business in Offaly could need additional inventory space.

A farm in Longford might need machinery storage.

A retailer in Dublin could need extra space during a busy period.

The same principle applies across Meath, Cavan, Leitrim, Kildare, Louth, Tipperary and Roscommon.

The right container depends on your intended use, available space and how long you expect to need it.

Don't Forget About Positioning

Buying the container is one step.

Getting it safely into the right position is another.

This is where a supplier offering transport and positioning support can make a real difference.

Shipcon has a dedicated truck and crane division and says it manages transport and positioning of heavy equipment and machinery nationwide.

That means you can discuss the practical side of delivery before your container arrives.

This is especially useful when access is tight or the container needs careful placement.

If you're researching Container Sales Ireland, ask potential suppliers how delivery works.

Don't simply ask, "How much is the container?"

Ask what happens after you place the order.

What If a Standard Container Isn't Enough?

Sometimes, you need more than basic storage.

You might need an office, workshop, welfare area or another purpose-built space.

That's where container modifications can become useful.

Shipcon converts containers into customised spaces, including offices, welfare units, workshops and storage facilities. Its modifications can include tailored layouts, doors, windows, access solutions and insulated finishes.

For a growing project, this can provide more flexibility than choosing a standard container.

You can also consider anti-vandal cabins, site offices and welfare units where a conventional storage container isn't the right solution.

So when comparing Container Sales Ireland, think about your wider requirements too.

You may only need storage today.

Your project might need a different type of space later.

Location Still Matters Across Ireland

Shipcon's central Westmeath base is particularly relevant for customers across the Midlands.

That includes Westmeath, Offaly, Longford, Cavan, Leitrim and Roscommon.

It also serves customers further east and south, including Meath, Kildare, Dublin, Louth and Tipperary.

Because Shipcon provides nationwide delivery, customers don't necessarily need to be close to Tyrrellspass to explore their options.

Whether your project is in Ireland, Westmeath, Offaly or Meath, delivery should form part of your buying discussion.

The same applies to Longford, Cavan and Leitrim.

And if you're based in Kildare, Dublin, Louth, Tipperary or Roscommon, you can still discuss nationwide delivery and positioning with the team.

A Better Way to Approach Container Buying in 2026

If you're comparing Container Sales Ireland options this year, start with your actual requirements.

Think about:

What you need to store
How much space you need
Where the container will go
How delivery vehicles will access the site
Whether positioning equipment will be required
How long you expect to use the container
Whether you might need modifications later

You should also look at the supplier's experience.

Shipcon has been operating since 2002 and says it has delivered more than 1,000 projects across Ireland. It provides container sales, hire, storage, conversions and truck and crane services.

That wider service offering means you can discuss the complete requirement rather than treating the container as a standalone purchase.
